The course is designed to have maximum impact on teachers’ classroom performance and on raising standards in schools; aims to help teachers become: expert in working with their colleagues on curriculum design and school improvement; highly accomplished in the production of evidence of improved teaching and learning strategies; able to undertake systematic classroom-based research; able to maximise their potential as teachers and learners in their immediate context; able to create a clear framework with which to continue their development and to make long term contributions to raising standards in schools; skilled in working closely with local education officers and other local practitioners in order to spread best practice in teaching and assessment; emphasis on teaching and learning will bring teachers from all phases to work productively together – differentiation will be provided from existing specialist options; also encourages relatively inexperienced teachers to undertake such a programme early in their careers leading on from the induction year into planned further development.
