Arab applicants should have good degree or equivalent in English or related subject from recognised institution; non-Arab applicants should have good Honours degree or equivalent in Arabic; native speakers of Arabic must provide evidence of proficiency in English; applicants with non-traditional qualifications and/or significant relevant experience in Arabic/English translation or interpreting considered, subject to approval through Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL); 2 references required with applications.

The main emphasis of the course is on practical translation into and out of Arabic; the course integrates theoretical and practical training in various methods and techniques of translation and provides a vital foundation for the working transfer; students also take a module in information technology which includes English and Arabic word processing; editing and electronic mail.
