3 compulsory modules: Research methods in archaeology; bible, and ancient cultures dissertation workshop; dissertation (for Master's only); plus optional modules worth 80 credits, including at least 1 in biblical studies and 1 in archaeology, selected from: archaeological practice (20 credits); archaeology, anthropology and material culture (20 credits); archaeology and texts in the Aegean, 1700-700 BC (20 credits); Roman Italy and its hinterland (20 credits); current issues in Aegean prehistory (20 credits); Roman Europe (20 credits); funerary archaeology (20 credits); the archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean, 14th-17th century BC (20 credits); biblical Hebrew (30 credits); new testament Greek (30 credits); Hebrew language and texts (30 credits); new testament language and texts (30 credits); issues in archaeology and the bible (30 credits); issues in historiography and the bible (30 credits); the bible and the tragic vision (1 Samuel) (30 credits); the bible and the prophetic vision (Amos) (30 credits); imaging God (30 credits); the bible and archaeology (30 credits); Paul and his world (30 credits); the bible and the fourfold gospel (30 credits); the bible and the Pauline persona (30 credits); the bible and the historical imagination (30 credits); the bible and the literary imagination (30 credits); enhanced languages (includes Latin German, Arabic, French, Spanish, and Italian) (15 credits and 30 credits); plus proof of having participated in 3 weeks of archaeological excavation before acceptance to the programme or during it.

2.1 Honours degree or overseas equivalent in archaeology, sociology, anthropology, ancient history, classics, biblical studies, theology, or religious studies; international students require: IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 575 (paper test) or TORFL 232 (computer test).

The course familiarises students with essential primary and secondary source materials, and major issues within biblical studies and archaeology, particularly relating to the history and culture of the eastern Mediterranean from the iron age through the Roman period; it allows students to strengthen their research or ancient language skills or to deepen their understanding of the fields of archaeology or biblical studies, equipping them with the skills needed to pursue research at graduate level.
