Year 2: Computing (Fortran), fluid mechanics, management 1, marine engineering, materials, mathematics for aerospace and ship science, naval architecture dynamics, resistance and propulsion, ship design, ship design and economics, ship functional design, ship production technology and ship structures. Year 3: Mandatory modules: high performance craft, management 2; manufacturing with metals; marine craft concept design; marine hydrodynamics; powercraft; performance and design ship control systems; theory of plate structures and individual Project; a choice from a wide range of optional modules. Year 4: Mandatory modules: marine law; marine safety and environmental engineering; sailing yacht design; structural integrit; yacht experimental techniques and group design project; a choice from a wide range of optional modules.

This course specialises in the analysis, design and performance of yachts, small craft and other high- performance vessels; the range of materials in use in yachts and small craft makes the materials related modules an essential part of the students' study; the knowledge and expertise of the Wolfson Unit brings a unique flavour to the sailing yacht design, and Yacht experimental techniques modules; in years three and four, the mandatory modules in management, marine law and maritime safety will add a broadening element to your study as well as providing knowledge and expertise in subject areas of particular significance for the chartered engineer.
