TOEFL (Minimum Scores) Paper Test: 550 Computer-Based Test: 213 Internet-Based Test: 79 IELTS (Minimum Score) Overall Band Score: 6.5. The Graduate School requires applicants to have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or a comparable GPA in upper-division work—junior- and senior-level courses—and in any graduate work already completed is also required. General GRE test is required for everyone.

Media Studies addresses the central role of media in arts, culture, society, and politics, within our historical as well as local, regional, national and global contexts. We research and teach how media engage cultural practices, political participation, and social interactions within economic structures and technological systems. We engage a wide range of broadcast and emerging media, including but not limited to film, television, radio, digital media, mobile communication, video, and interactive games. We explore media as sites for the articulation and struggle over identity, in terms of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, religion, and generation. We value multiple theoretical and methodological approaches through the interdisciplinary study of texts, production, industry, policy, reception, and audiences. Through media literacy based in empirical work, we aim to inspire better media practices as well as informed citizen engagement.

With sunshine more than 300 days per year, Austin offers College Living Experience (CLE) students access to the Texas Hill Country, a destination for people who love fishing, water sports, bike trails, ball fields and picnic areas.

Downtown Austin, known as the Live Music Capital of the World, is host to a variety of music events throughout the year. Favorites include the South by Southwest entertainment conferences and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The Texas capital is renowned for its cultural and civic attractions including the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, and the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. Austin features a multitude of deluxe shopping areas, including the Sixth Street entertainment district and the Guadalupe Street shopping district.

The Domain, a new upscale outdoor mall boasting a variety of shops and restaurants, is located less than two miles from CLE. More recreation options are available within a 90-minute drive to San Antonio, such as Six Flags Over Texas amusement park, the San Antonio Spurs NBA basketball team, and the world-famous Texas landmark, the Alamo.

The institution has the seventh-largest single-campus enrollment in the nation. The university's campus includes 3 large residence hall communities, apartments for families and graduate students, buffets and dining rooms. The university's seven museums and seventeen libraries hold over nine million volumes, making it the seventh-largest academic library in the country. The newest museum, the 14,400 m2 Blanton Museum of Art, is the largest university art museum in the United States and hosts approximately 17,000 works from Europe, the United States, and Latin America

One of the University's most visible features is the Beaux-Arts Main Building, including a 307-foot (94 m) tower designed by Paul Philippe Cret. Completed in 1937, the Main Building is in the middle of campus. The tower usually appears illuminated in white light in the evening but is lit orange for various special occasions, including athletic victories and academic accomplishments; it is conversely darkened for solemn occasions. At the top of the tower is a carillon of 56 bells, the largest in Texas.
