Subjects studied are: Nursing; health sciences; social sciences; these are introduced, developed and enhanced throughout the course to provide the knowledge and skills required to become a nurse; theory and practice are strongly correlated in the programmes; 50% of the course consists of nursing practice; training is achieved through simulated experience and placements in hospitals and community; during the branch programme, placement experience includes acute care, rehabilitation, care of the elderly as well as specialist areas such as child/adolescent and alcohol and drug problems.

The course provides students with the essential knowledge, competencies and skills to provide care for clients with emotional/behavioural problems in hospitals, or in centres in the community; the programme provides experience of working with clients across the age range in a variety of settings; during the programme, students are supported by both tutorial and placement staff, whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team.
