Paralegals help attorneys conduct interviews and investigations, research cases, draft legal documents, assist at real estate closings, depositions, trials, and more. Students learn how to be part of the legal team and work under the supervision and direction of attorneys.
UT's paralegal studies program is designed to provide students with a broad background in many different areas of law. It is the only program in northwest Ohio approved by the American Bar Association. Designated as a program of excellence, UT's program is the only paralegal program in the country with its own teaching courtroom, McQuade Courtroom. UT’s four different paralegal programs provide the education to assist attorneys in many different law-related careers.
Students gain real-world experience through internships where they earn academic credit. They also take courses that are taught in the state-of-the-art McQuade Courtroom by judges, magistrates and attorneys.
What to expect when you graduate
Career sources project an 85 percent increase in paralegal employment over the next eight years. Graduates can work in large and small law firms, corporate legal departments, banks, court systems, and government offices. In addition, paralegal studies is a great major for students interested in attending law school. Graduates with a bachelor degree in paralegal studies who meet certain criteria have guaranteed admission to UT’s College of Law.
