Year 2: At least 1 module from: surveys, secondary analysis and social statistics; field studies in social research; theoretical ideas in sociology; plus 3 from: social theory of law; sociology of health and illness; sociology of knowledge; science and intellectuals;narratives of disease; death and difference; the sociology of story; contemporary health issues; socilogy of crime and deviance; sociology of the modern state; social constructions of masculinities; Marx’s social theory; work and employment in contemporary society; visual sociology; cultural regimes of gender; social welfare in britain; migration and identity; transformations; gender, reproduction and contemporary society; politics of food and nutrition; creating social europe; population and social change. Year 3: 10,000-word dissertation; 3 options from: contemporary social theory; sociology of health and illness; sociology of knowledge, science and intellectuals; narratives of disease, death and difference; the sociology of story; 'race' difference and the inclusive society; contemporary health issues; the sociology of crime and deviance; sociology of the modern state; social contruction of masculinities; Marx's social theory; surveys, secondary analysis and social statistics; work and employment in contemporary society; sociology of education; sexuality and society; collective behaviour and social movements; youth and society; migration and identity; money, sex and power; politics of food and nutrition; creating social Europe; population and social change; sociology of developing societies.
