Good Honours degree (1st or Upper 2nd Class or equivalent); equivalent qualifications from overseas are welcome; those holding or expecting to gain a good 1st degree in an unrelated subject may be required to complete the University’s Summer School module in international relations or an equivalent approved by the admissions tutor.

Various aspects of the international order and international politics are considered (including the dynamics of international social and political power relationships and conflicts, and state building); and these topics are studied comparatively in relation to: governmental; political and social processes and in the contexts of various historical continuities; discontinuities and contrasts.
