Students need to be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with a 1st degree; minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience; practising for a minimum of 21 hours per week, with access to client groups specific to the chosen route; written support from chief executive and senior nurse and preceptor from the supporting NHS Trust.

This course has been developed to challenge, strengthen and lead practice at the forefront of health care provision in the 21st century; there are 3 specialist routes: Emergency nursing; primary health care; trauma and orthopaedic nursing; clinical work in assessing clients is a crucial part of student development, as is the ability to undertake physical patient examinations; students provide holistic care to patients in a way that promotes continuity and best practice; 2 of the modules deal with nurse prescribing: there are opportunities to use these modules to gain prescribing status.
