Semester 1: Concept development; write a dissertation, using primary and secondary research to create a piece of writing focusing on an area within fine art; and study professional practice in fine art, looking at the contextual and practical issues of presenting and exhibiting art including aspects of law as it applies to fine artists, finance, marketing and promotion, copyright and public liability. Semester 2: Ideas and perspectives examining visual culture through beliefs and values in today’s society; and complete a major project and degree exhibition, which is the culmination of the learning and studio practice and requires students to produce work for public exhibition.

The course has an inter-disciplinary approach and draws on the traditional areas of drawing, painting and print-making as well as photography, digital imaging and graphic design/visual communication; students also foster links with other technologies and disciplines within the field of art and design; throughout the course students develop studio practice to a high level and support this with a thorough understanding of theoretical and professional issues in fine art.
