Doctoral-level degree in a field related to health (e.g., MD, DVM, DDS, or Ph.D in the biological, behavioral, or social sciences), although exceptional applicants without a prior doctorate but with a strong background in a biological or social science are also eligible to apply. Applicants should have one year of coursework in statistics or the equivalent prior to enrolling in this program; this requirement may be met through a Yale School of Public Health intensive biostatistics course taken during the summer before enrollment. All applicants must submit the results of their Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). Foreign nationals must submit official test scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Clinical and translational research today requires an understanding of concepts in study design and analysis, which can be met via rigorous training in the core methods of epidemiology and biostatistics. Epidemiologic training in study design, population sampling, methods to reduce bias, systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses, are increasingly valued in many job sectors.
