Level 1: Counselling skills and process 1; helping in the community; humanistic theory and principles; counselling skills and process 2; interpersonal skills; elective module (a choice from a range of subject areas including theology, English etc.). Level 2: change oriented approaches; difference and helping; counselling issues in a social context; psychodynamic oriented approaches; development of the helper; psychology of relationship. Level 3: insight oriented theories; critical study supervised client work; professional development; integration of perspectives.

Every week throughout the programme students will study 1 module which develops counselling skills and understanding of different counselling approaches; this involves skills training where students practice with peers for 2 hours a week, and a personal development group for 1 hour a week where students explore relationship styles and skills; in addition students will study theoretical frameworks that enable students to place the use of counselling skills in a philosophical context; students have the opportunity to participate in a placement activity to practice skills in the community.
