Level 1 modules include: war and society; empires; popular protest since 1300; historic buildings; sacred and secular: Christianity in world history; contemporary history; the making of Britain; America’s century; history of sport; researching and presenting the past. Level 2: students have the opportunity to undertake a practical project or placement to examine the application of history in the wider community and to gain experience relevant to their future careers; typical modules include: Medieval Europe; the Renaissance; roads to revolution: England 1558-1642; Europe in the age of Nationalism, 1848-1914; modern Britain; The rise and fall of Soviet Communism; affluence and anxiety: the USA, 1920-1960; Ireland and America; African diaspora; from slavery to freedom; history, media and popular culture; history and heritage. Level 3: students select modules from the list of special topics and complete an individual research project on a topic of their choice; modules include: the nature of history; the first crusade; reformation and resistance in Tudor England; the English Civil War; early Victorian England; late Victorian and Edwardian Britain; Britain and the First World War; the origins of the Second World War; Nation Divided: the US Civil War; politics, war and protest in 1960s America.
