At Duquesne University students are learning from teacher-scholars who provide an excellent classroom experience and also produce some of the most important research in their fields. In fact, The Chronicle of Higher Education ranked us No. 16 among 61 small research universities that were rated according to an index measuring faculty productivity. Besides, U.S. News National University Rankings 2016 ranked DU the 124th nationally. Washington Monthly National Universities Rankings 2016 placed it the 128th.
The 49-acre campus is on top of a hill in Pittsburgh. Students can join any of the 150 student organizations including 19 fraternities and sororities and use two recording studios, a multipurpose recreation centre and a theater-classroom complex. Students can choose to take part in football, basketball, cross-country, soccer, swimming, tennis, outdoor and indoor track and field, lacrosse, rowing, and volleyball.
Also, the DU campus is also one of the first in Pennsylvania to invest in green technology, such as an ice cooling system that reduces peak energy demands. With an acceptance rate of about 73% Duquesne is mildly challenging to get in.
Duquesne has many notable alumni in the media and sports fields, at least two bishops and two cardinals in the Roman Catholic Church.
The most popular majors by the number of registered students are business/marketing, health professions, biology, communications/journalism, public relations, advertising and applied communication, education, and psychology.
Its academics have earned highly regarded accolades. For the eighth consecutive year Duquesne has been ranked in the top tier in the Best Colleges rankings and the highest rank to date it has achieved is 115.
The A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration was ranked No. 191 on the Best Undergraduate Business Programs list 2016.
