ESF is a multiple campus institution that includes approximately 1 million square feet of facilities in 186 buildings on 25,000 acres of land. Facilities for education and research are provided on the main campus in Syracuse and at five regional campuses and three field stations.
ESF's main campus, located in Syracuse, New York, is where most academic and administrative activity takes place. The campus is made up of nine main buildings that include halls, laboratories, study and research centers, libraries, field stations, students’ dorms and dining facilities and other facilities for students and faculty and notable historical places.
Students at the Syracuse campus enjoy many activities on and off campus. There are a number of student clubs and organizations at ESF. Wanakena students have their own woodsmen and ice hockey teams. A number of professional organizations are also open to student membership. There are free movie nights, clubs to join, and free buses to Destiny USA on Fridays and Saturdays. The Carrier Dome is right across the street where there are concerts, football, and basketball games.
Students also enjoy a variety of shops, restaurants, museums, and theaters in Syracuse, and nearby Marshall Street and Westcott Street. The Westcott Theatre is within walking distance of the university.
SUNY-ESF freshman are required to live on-campus, unless their permanent home address is within commuting distance.
All ESF freshmen live in Centennial Hall, the ESF residence hall. Centennial Hall is an environmentally friendly “green” building that houses 549 ESF students in a combination of residence hall style rooms and student apartments. It is located on the western edge of the ESF campus on Oakland Street, just a short walk down the hill from Baker Laboratory.
All entering first-year students living in ESF’s Centennial Hall must choose a campus meal plan for ten meals or more per week provided by Syracuse University Dining Services. ESF students can use their SU meal plan at any of the dining centers or other food service locations found on the SU campus, and will most often use the Sadler Hall dining center located just a short walk from Centennial Hall.
