2 theory courses: Cultural history/visual culture; cultural critique; 3 special options from a range typically including: Latin American cinemas: nuevo cine Argentino; photography and the Brazilian image world 1840–1950; literature and dictatorship in Latin America; Native American literature; anatomy, dissection and art in early modern Spain; childhood culture in modern Spain; questions of representation in modern Spanish culture; politics and society in Portuguese cinema; plus research skills; and dissertation.

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree with Spanish as a main component; other applicants considered (degree-level Spanish is normally required); 2 letters of reference and a sample of written work in support of application normally required; qualifying essay in English or Spanish may be requested.

The course focuses on contemporary theoretical developments in the fields of literature, cultural studies, cultural geography, film and the history of art and media; students specialise in either Spain and Portugal or Latin America, as well as in different historical periods and media, or combine interests.
