Students undertake realistic projects of varying complexity and scale, both studio-based and site-based; projects draw increasingly on the content of the lectures and seminars, so that content becomes progressively integrated, culminating in major design project on which the student is assessed; content includes landscape technology and science as well as design and professional studies; major design project is researched during the summer between years 1 and 2, and completed during the 2nd year; those not progressing to year 2 may be awarded a diploma in landscape design studies.

2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline; applicants with degrees in other disciplines, or other relevant qualifications and work experience are considered; portfolio of personal work and written proposal should be submitted with the application; in case of EU or overseas applicants this may be in form of high quality slides or photographs of applicant's work; applicants from overseas who have a good degree in landscape architecture may be offered direct entry to the 2nd year of the course.

The course is a conversion course for people wishing to change career and become professional landscape architects; it is accredited by the Landscape Institute and graduates are eligible to become associate members.
