You can apply if: You have a university Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in history You have a university Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent social sciences, humanities, or a Bachelor’s degree from a university college. It is imperative that you can demonstrate that you have undertaken coursework in history (e.g. through electives or a minor). Sufficient English language skills. We recommend that you take a TOEFL or IELTS test to prove your English language proficiency: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), minimum requirements: 100 in the internet-based test (sub scores with a minimum of 23 or higher). IELTS academic (International English Language Testing System), minimum requirement: overall score of 7.0. (sub scores with a minimum of 6.5 or higher). A Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE - grade B or A) or a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE grade C, B or A) will also be accepted.

In this master programme, you study historical processes in a comparative and interdisciplinary manner. Drawing on insights from the social sciences, political theory and cultural analysis, you will learn to describe both the broad outlines and the unique aspects of historical events from the early modern period to the present. Studying topics such as international relations, migration, trade and cultural heritage, will provide a better understanding of the present as well. As a history graduate from Erasmus University Rotterdam, you will be able to produce short or long term visions on international (historical) processes. You will also be an experienced writer, presenter and debater. All of these skills are much sought-after in jobs at governmental organisations, NGOs, consultancy agencies, museums or heritage institutes. An academic career is also possible after this Master’s programme.
