successfully completed Bachelor’s degree in empirical linguistics with an African focus, or equivalent degree in a German or non-German African or linguistics Bachelor’s programme; recognition and comparability of degrees is decided by the examination committee.
Applicants with an international university entrance qualification and Bachelor's degree must prove sufficient German language skills according to the regulations of the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH), the German language test for university entrance. In order to submit an application for Master’s programmes with German as language of instruction, you have to present German language certificates proving at least completed level C1.

The aim of the African Studies/African Linguistics programme is to teach and develop expert knowledge in the area of African studies as well as knowledge of related themes. The programme’s focus is, on the one hand, on training young academics for linguistic research carried out in Africa, and on the other hand, on African linguistics with an interdisciplinary approach including social as well as communication and literary content.
