Applicants must have a placement in a school before starting the course; well-qualified mathematicians; or economics; psychology; science; engineering; computing and other graduates; a good Mathematics A-level or equivalent; satisfactory written and spoken communication skills and be able to explain mathematical ideas clearly; experience of and commitment to working with learners in a formal or informal setting; an appreciation of diversity and how equality is promoted through education; and be able to demonstrate how your individual qualities and experiences would be an asset in a teaching and learning environment.

The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) is a modular employment based programme; as an employment-based route, school based training is at the core of the programme and is designed to take account of the individual needs of the student, setting up and carrying out a comprehensive programme under the guidance of the school based and university-based tutors; the course prepares students to meet the challenge of teaching mathematics in inner-city comprehensive schools serving diverse communities; the university-based programme includes a combination of lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials; the course aims to support entry into the teaching profession of creative, competent, flexible and reflective teachers.
