Trainees are specifically helped to: Develop an awareness of language and a knowledge of the English language, and to apply these professionally; develop familiarity with the principles and practice of effective teaching to adult learners of English; develop basic skills for teaching adults in the language classroom; develop familiarity with appropriate resources and materials for use with adult learners of English; develop an awareness of teaching in FE and the legislation governing working in the sector; develop an understanding of how to embed functional skills (literacy, numeracy and information communication technology) in teaching ESOL; the course includes a fair balance of language awareness and input emphasis throughout is on trainee participation, not on traditional lecturing.
