Applicants must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission. Comparable Bachelor's Degrees: Diplom (Diploma) awarding Bakalavr (Bachelor) Diplom (Diploma awarding kvalifikatsiya (qualification) from an institute (Institute), universitet (university), akademiya (academy) or koservatoriya (conservatory) Diplom Spetsialista (Diploma of Specialist) - 5 years Full Status Admission Minimum GPA Requirements: 4/5. To be considered for admission to the Master’s Program in Translation and Interpreting, the candidate should have an undergraduate major in languages, linguistics, international studies, area studies, or a related field. Applicants must have command of one or preferably two languages in addition to English and must meet the minimum admissions requirements of the Graduate College. Students must have native or near-native proficiency in English and at least one other language supported by the program. Preference will be given to applications with two other languages in addition to English. Language A (native language) should be at ILR5; Language B should be at or above ILR 3-4; language C should be at or above ILR 2-3. Scores required for admission to this program are at least 103 total on the TOEFL with a speaking sub-section minimum score of 24 or scores greater than 6.5 total and 6 or higher in all sub-sections on the IELTS with a speaking sub-section minimum score of 8.

The university is in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana (total population 207,000) in east-central Illinois, in the northeastern United States. Situated about 140 miles south of Chicago, 125 miles west of Indianapolis, and 180 miles northeast of St. Louis.

Library items mark one of the largest public university libraries in the world. There are more than 20 area studies libraries, including one of the larger engineering libraries in the country. The university has a National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) - one of the leading centers in the United States on the development of high-performance computing systems. Besides, UIUC is rated as one of the most "disability friendly" U.S. campuses.
