There are 10 strands available that provide hand-on research training in the relevant areas: Biology of cancer; human anatomy and cell biology; integrative mammalian biology; pathophysiology; molecular and cellular physiology; pharmacology and therapeutics; physiology; systems biology; drug safety and translational medicine and therapeutics.

Lower 2nd Class Honours degree (or above) in a relevant scientific subject; or equivalent in other degree discipline (medicine); intercalating medical, veterinary or dental students are considered.

The course is suitable both for those wishing to pursue further studies at Doctoral level, or entering industry in a research related capacity; it is aimed at students with a background in physiology; pharmacology; cell biology; anatomy or any related areas; including medical, dental or veterinary graduates; the course provides a high level of research training via a 30 weeks research project; this project is presented as a dissertation by the student to give generic research training relevant to students needs in an interdisciplinary research environment; the course has a modular framework and is based around 3 semesters; it is delivered by lectures, tutorials, seminars and individual tuition for the research project.
