Level 3: Core physics: electromagnetic theory and holography; quantum mechanics; laboratory 5: computational physics; project; nuclear physics; condensed matter 1: recent developments; project. Special topics: Introduction to acoustics; sound radiation and propagation; human factors in acoustics; audio systems; acoustics of enclosed spaces; spectroscopy and photonics; environmental acoustics; musical acoustics; optoelectronics and devices; electromagnetic transmission and thermal properties of solids.

This course consists of the core physics syllabus plus the special topics at each level; and t the end of the second year (subject to satisfactory performance) students can continue onto the final 2 years of the MPhys programme or opt for the remainder of the BSc.
