1st degree or appropriate equivalent qualification awarded by a recognised institution (whilst applications from candidates with non-traditional academic backgrounds are encouraged and mature students are considered favourably) applicants would be expected to have significant work experience at the appropriate level; for those whose 1st language is not English an attainment of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent must be demonstrated; the University offers pre-sessional summer programmes for those who need to improve their English before starting the course.

This course has been designed for housing and advice professionals, those working in women’s aid or interested in housing law and policy (giving a theoretically informed understanding of: the history, causes, law and multi-agency policy responses to issues surrounding violence in the home) developing the ability to undertake rigorously researched analysis of the issues and an understanding of alternative perspectives on the causes and responses to the issues; additionally the course provides a legal, policy and practical foundation to the subject of domestic violence; with attainment of the award after students successfully complete 2 taught modules plus a self-directed study project module.
