The campus provides students with all needed services. Its library system forms the largest public research collection in the state of Connecticut. Large theatre complex, museums and research centers contribute to cultural and scientific wealth of the students.
In 2012, the University of Connecticut was ranked as the most sustainable campus among 215 universities worldwide.
Without many activities off campus, students can get involved in the more than 450 clubs and organizations on campus, including more than 30 fraternities and sororities. They can also catch a film in the on-campus movie theater and skate for free in the school’s ice rink. Sports are a major focus for students.
There is a wide variety of student organizations on campus, including fraternities and sororities, musical groups, and religious, athletic, political, cultural, business, military, artistic, and community service clubs.
While many area activities are held on campus, the university provides free local bus transportation and also arranges frequent bus trips to Boston, Manhattan, and the Connecticut shoreline. The main university campus also includes a number of museums, theaters, and performing arts venues.
Traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites provide a variety of options for students who live on campus. UConn offers cable TV, high-speed internet, volleyball courts, game rooms, study lounges. The rate at which UConn students live on campus is among the highest in the nation. Therefore, freshmen do not have to live on campus.
Between the university’s eight dining halls, five cafés, and the Student Union food court, a good meal on campus is practically around every corner. UConn’s award-winning Dining Services offers vegetarian and gluten-free options; and Kosher and Halal food stations are always available.
UConn is ranked No. 1 for gluten-free dining options by the National Association of College & University Food Services.
About 79% of UConn graduates are employed in 2015. Their median base salary is about $58,000. Among the companies that hire graduates are Amazon, Apple, Deloitte, Ford Motor Company, IBM, PepsiCo, Unilever, and many others.
