The University of Mississippi, better known as Ole Miss, is a large public institution and flagship university for the state of Mississippi in the college town of Oxford.
A world-class public research university, the institution has a long history of producing leaders in public service, academics and innovative research. With about 24,000 students, Ole Miss is the state's largest university, with a major medical school, a nationally recognized law school and 15 academic divisions. It has been ranked as one of America's best college by Forbes and one of the best places to work by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The university's Honors College has been named among America's finest theirs. From a liberal arts college with more than 30 departments to an accountancy school that consistently ranks among the nation’s top 10, the University of Mississippi offers academic degrees to suit any student.
Ole Miss also is home to a number of unique national centers of research and study, including the Center for the Study of Southern Culture, the Center for Intelligence and Security Studies, the Croft Institute for International Studies, the National Food Management Service Institute and the Center for Manufacturing Excellence.
Over 30% of students participate in Greek Life and there are 34 national fraternities and sororities on campus. Ole Miss recently expanded its compost program to collect food waste from an increased number of campus dining facilities. With an acceptance rate of about 81%, Ole Miss is relatively easy to get in.
U.S. News National University Rankings 2016 ranked the university the 135th in United States. Academic Ranking of World Universities 2016 placed it 401st worldwide.

U.S. News & World Report ranks the Professional MBA program at the UM School of Business Administration as one of the top 14 in the nation in 2013. The university's Patterson School of Accountancy is ranked No. 4 in the nation – atop all other SEC programs – for undergraduate education in the August 2013 issue of the Public Accounting Report.
Also, the school's master's and doctoral programs are ranked at Nos. 5 and 8, respectively, in their categories.
